Every Velum piece begins as a flat sketch and a length of cloth, and ends only after it has been made, worn, and remade. Between those points sits the atelier — the slow, unglamorous work of turning an idea into a garment that behaves.
We prototype in the final fabric, not a cheaper stand-in, because heavyweight wool and structured leather do not lie about how a design will fall. A first sample is pinned, worn for a day, then cut apart at the seams to see where it strained. Collars are rebuilt until they stand on their own. Hems are weighted until they hang true.
This is where restraint is earned. By the time a piece reaches the store, dozens of small decisions have been made and unmade in its favor. The result looks simple. Simple is the hardest thing to make well.
